February 12, 2018 by Grace Enriquez   2 comments

The start of the calendar year is always an exciting time for children’s and young adult literature, as the American Library Association (ALA) announces its Youth Media Awards. Below you will find not only links to the 2018 ALA award-winning and honor books that we blogged about, but links to the many books we blogged about over the course of 2017 that have won awards and honors in the field of children’s and young adult literature.

The following awards are included in this post:

  • 2018 American Library Association (ALA) Youth Media Awards
  • 2018 National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) Charlotte Huck and Orbis Pictus Book Awards
  • 2017 Children’s Literature Assembly (CLA) Notable Children’s Books in the English Language Arts
  • 2018 Notable Books for a Global Society
  • 2017 Boston Globe-Horn Book Awards
  • 2018 National Science Teachers Association (NSTA) Outstanding Science Trade Books for Children

We invite you to explore our previously written blog entries for these winners and honor books. In the coming weeks, we will select a few more titles from the list of ALA winners and post blog entries to support you as you teach with these titles.

It looks like you accidentally put Crown twice as a Caldecott honor and forgot Big Cat, Little Cat by Elisha Cooper.

      Hi Danielle,
Thanks for reading and for your comment! Crown is one of those amazing books that won multiple awards, so we’ve listed it for each award it’s won. Grand Canyon is another one. For this post, we’ve only included books we’ve blogged about in the past year so readers can click on them for the variety of teaching books we included in the previous posts. We’ll be posting about a few more recent ALA winners over the next few weeks, so we can share more teaching ideas and invitations about award winners we haven’t blogged about yet.
